The Experience of Apparatus Treatment of Vertebral Îsteochondrosis and its Complications

Because of the vertical position of the human body, unlike that of the animals, the vertebral column suffers considerable overload. The biggest tension falls to the lumbar and the cervical parts of the spine. It is explained by the fact that the neck and the loin perform not only the supportive, but also the amortizing function in movements of all kinds. That is why as early as during the second-third decade of life the lumbar and the cervical parts of the spine start to wear out. Wearing out is the loss of elasticity of the spinal tissues – the intervertebral disk, ligaments, fascias and muscles, as well as alteration of the normal osteal structure of the vertebral column. Thus, static and dynamic loads on the spine result in deformation of the intervertebral disk, intervertebral muscles and fibrous cords. This, in its turn, results in irritation of receptors of the spinal tissues. In order to make up for deformation of the disk or excessive tension of the muscles, growth of the osteal and fibrous tissues begins in the spine: the spine tries to "straighten" again, to become steadier and redistribute the load. Growth of the bone results in thickening of the processes of vertebras, by means of which they are connected with one another; the growth of the fibrous tissue – in thickening and loss of elasticity of the ligaments along the spine.
RTherefore, the vertebral column becomes more rigid, less agile. This might result in pinching of the spinal cord inside the spine, as well as of the nerve trunks coming out from the spinal cord. It results in aches in the back or the neck (in case of deformation of segments and thickening of bones and ligaments) or shooting pain in different parts of the body – the so-called radiculitis (in case of pinching of the nervous roots of the spinal cord). Development of such alterations takes place, as it has already been mentioned, mostly in the lumbar and the cervical parts of the spine. But if the process has gone too far, it affects the whole vertebral column.
Millions of people in the whole world suffer from diseases of the locomotor system. Every person has suffered pain in his back at least once in his life. The main causes of this pain are as follows:
• osteochondrosis and its complications (protrusion or hernia of the disk, intervertebral hernia, kyphosis, radiculitis) spondylosis and spondylarthrosis (arthrosis of small joints of the spine);
• arthrosis (destruction and rigidity), arthritis (inflammation of small and big joints);
• disorder of posture (scoliosis of different degree of intensity, kyphosis, kyphoscoliosis).
The frequency of cases of intervertebral hernia has been increased almost three times lately. The principal cause of this severe disease is the derangement of metabolism in the intervertebral disk. Water inflow to the nucleus of the intervertebral disk diminishes because of genetic predisposition, derangement of metabolism, age-specific alterations.
Osteochondrosis increases the risk of hernia almost ten times.
Intervertebral hernia is the protrusion of an injured disk beyond its limits and pinching of the nerve, which causes unbearable pain. One of the causes of pain in the back is the pressure of the vertebral disk hernia on the spinal nerve. About a quarter of the total population of our planet more or less suffers from intervertebral hernia. Common osteochondrosis increases the risk of vertebral hernia. Intervertebral hernia can be accompanied by paresis or muscular paralysis of inferior limbs, disorder of sensitivity, disturbance of the functions of pelvic organs. It has been determined that 19% of the patients with hernia of intervertebral disks need surgical treatment.
Diagnosis of osteochondrosis and its complications is done on the basis of the analysis of clinical manifestations and special methods of study of the spine and muscles - X-ray inspection, computer tomography, echography.
For treatment of osteochondrosis the methods of massage and manual therapy, as well as drug treatment with preparations improving nutrition of muscles and bones, restoring the properties of the intervertebral cartilage, relieving pain, edema and inflammation of tissues, are used. A wide range of medical supplies suggested by the traditional medicine yields only brief effect and doesn’t solve the problem cardinally, as it doesn’t affect the principal cause of the illness.
In the Restorative Health Center “R. and P. SCENAR” illnesses of the spine and joints are treated with the help of SCENAR apparatus, stability meter, massaging bed Nuga Best. During the last year 65 patients with illnesses of the spine and joints had a course of treatment at our center. Diagnosis and dynamics of treatment were done on the reflexodiagnostic complex “Rista” /for assessment of the functional condition of the organism and detection of the concomitant diseases/ and Stabilan-01 apparatus /for assessment of the initial stabilographic indices – admittance control, stability test, moving target test, etc./. The age groups of the patients can be described as follows: 30-45 years – 21 patients, 45-60 years – 29 patients, older than 60 years – 15 patients. The sex groups of the patients were: 29 women, 36 men.
The course of treatment consisted of 20-30 rounds of scenar therapy /depending on the intensity of the process and the concomitant diseases/ - 10-15 rounds on the multifunctional massaging bed Nuga Best, 20 procedures on Stabilan-01. The scenar influence was general /six spots on the face and three tracks/ and local – in the sore area, as well as by sectors and reflexogenic zones /taking into account the concomitant diseases/. Duration of the scenar influence was 30 minutes. Then the patient was wrapped up in a medical multilayer blanket /MMB/. On Stabilan-01 apparatus the patients got a complex of rehabilitative and developmental training. The rehabilitative training is done with the help of software in the form of games allowing to conduct the process of rehabilitation of patients with locomotive disorders. The developmental training is done with the help of software in the form of stabilographic games with a high degree ob complexity, with the help of which training aimed at development of the equilibrium function /EF/ is conducted. The direct object of the stabilographic study is the process of maintaining the vertical position by the patient – EF, which is affected by functioning of many systems of the organism, including the locomotor system. Stabilography was used for diagnostics and rehabilitation of locomotive disorders, development of coordination and assessment of the dynamics of treatment. During the first week of treatment only with SCENAR and Stabilan-01 apparatuses the general health condition of 70% of patients improved and the pain symptoms subsided. Starting with the second week the treatment was supplemented with the multifunctional massaging bed Nuga Best. The bed massages the muscles of the back with stretching of the spine. Stretching of the vertebral column is achieved by long stripping of the internal projector from the occiput to the coccygeal bone. The rollers of the internal projector, made of the semiprecious stone nephritis, ensure step-by step pressure and deep heating of the problem areas of the spine, relax the muscles of the back and release the pinched nerve endings. A five-globule nephritis projector is used to relieve inflammation and pain in joints. A low-frequency belt-myostimulator relieves muscular ache and neuralgia.
At the end of the course of treatment the diagnosis on the complex “Rista” and “Stabilan-01” was repeated. The level of FA /functional activity/ of al the patients had increased, skewness in all meridians diminished significantly, the general health condition improved, the patients mentioned absence /65%/ or considerable abatement of pain /35%/, the range of motions increased, the edema and pain in the joints were over, the intensity of concomitant diseases diminished. Stabilographic indices of 20% of the patients had changed towards improvement /shifting of the CD, dispersion of Q, average dispersion of R, length of the curve of statokinesigramma L, quality of the equilibrium function QEF, etc/, those of 80% of the patients had recovered to the norm.
Conclusions:
1. SCENAR apparatus has analgetic, antiinflammatory, vasoregulative /improvement of the local and general blood circulation/, anti-edematous effects, normalizes the metabolic processes.
2. The multifunctional massaging bed Nuga Best massages the muscles of the back with stretching of the spine and releases the pinched nerve endings. The five-globule nephritis projector relieves inflammation and pain in joints; the low-frequency belt-myostimulator relieves muscular ache and neuralgia.
3. Stabilan-01 performs the diagnosis and rehabilitation of locomotive disorders, development of coordination and assessment of the dynamics of treatment.
4. A year's experience of combined usage of the SCENAR and Stabilan-01 apparatuses and the multifunctional massaging bed Nuga Best showed that this method of treatment is the most effective one in case of osteochondrosis, spondylosis and its complications. This kind of treatment is so effective that it should become a necessary component in treatment of illnesses of the spine.
